Senior Scientist – Gene Therapy

The scientist will have worked with viral vectors (ideally AAV and/or non-integrating lentivirus) in drug discovery or early development. The scientist has a strong track record of productivity and excels in a collaborative team environment in industry. S/he will be a key member of the early scientific team at Tenaya and help shape a culture of scientific rigor and collegiality in the Company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a gene therapy vector for selective tropism and efficient transduction.
  • Advance vector platform towards future scale up and process development
  • Work as a senior member of the Biology research group and foster a culture of scientific excellence, teamwork, and rigorous innovation
  • Drive individual and team performance and group collaboration
  • Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with the CSO, other members of the Biology group, and academic Founders


The successful candidate will be an accomplished scientist with a track record of success in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. S/he will have a minimum of 4 years of research experience in industry after their advanced degree. The ideal candidate may have experience in viral vector development and tropism and be familiar with the cardiac, muscle, and/or fibrosis field.  

Additional qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in Biology or a related field
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong work ethic, exceptional interpersonal skills, and focus
  • Strong leadership, deep knowledge, and keen intellect for integrating novel science and emerging technologies to address complex problems
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to build transparent and collaborative relationships across the company and with other stakeholders of the company

Research Associate – Biology

Tenaya is seeking a creative, self-motivated individual with a passion for experimental science to join our founding team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on cutting edge science and take part in building an exciting, science driven company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform a diverse range of cell based assays to characterize lead molecules.
  • Oversee all aspects of maintaining human cell lines including passaging and manipulating cells, preparation of tissue culture reagents, and helping with tissue culture room upkeep and restocking.
  • Execute a range of experiments using molecular biology techniques including plasmid design, DNA isolation, PCR, cloning, and virus preparation.


  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline with 1-4 years of hands on research experience in either an academic lab or company setting.
  • Prior experience with mammalian cell culture and standard molecular techniques.
  • Candidates with human iPS cell culture, high throughput screening, rodent handling, tissue sectioning, and/or flow cytometry experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • A positive attitude, strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently are required
  • Strong communication skills and the proven ability to build open and collaborative relationships are essential. Conduct the monthly close process and prepare timely and accurate financial statements and supporting documents, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
